Play-Doh Alphabet: A Pre-Writing Activity www.joyinthehome.com

What preschooler do you know that doesn't love Play-Doh? This Play-Doh Alphabet is the perfect pre-writing activity to encourage them to learn their alphabet and how to spell their name.

Here is how my preschooler and I did this activity together:

First, we got out a few different Play-Doh colors, our alphabet cutters and our rolling pin.  I helped him get his Play-Doh rolled out and flat enough to working with the cutters.

Once we had it rolled out, I had him find the first letter of his name in the pile of 26 letters.  He then pressed the cutter into the dough on his own to make the letters.  He picked it up and put it in an area that we were working to spell his name.

We continued rolling out the colors that he desired and he would find the letters for his name. We would work together to place the letters in the right spot to spell his name correctly.

By the time we were nearly finished, he wanted to do the ‘o' all on his own.  So he rolled out the dark purple Play-Doh and then used the cutter to get his last letter for his name.

He loved seeing his name spelled out in Play-Doh!
